Dynastical fashions of China were showcased at the Museum of Australian Chinese History during Melbourne Fashion Week in October 2022.
In ‘Fashion through the Dynasties – Hanyu Afternoon’ a series of garments echoing classic simplicity and elegant opulence represented the evolution of the Chinese hanfu over two millennia, spanning the Tang (618-907), Song (907-1279) and Ming (1368- 1644) dynasties.
In recent years, many fashionable young people in China have begun to explore these cultural heritage styles and adopt modern interpretations. Attendees at the Hanfu afternoon were treated to performances of Chinese traditional instruments including the pipa.
Established in 1985, the Chinatown based museum has a range of permanent exhibitions relating to Chinese experiences in the 19th century Australian Goldfields
